Background: FOP (FGFR1 Oncogene Partner) was identified and cloned as part of a translocation breakpoint in which the protein kinase domain of the FGFR1 (Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 1) gene is fused to the leucine-rich domain of FOP. Translocations involving FOP and FGFR1 are associated with stem cell myeloproliferative disorder (MPD). FOP has also been identified as a part of a centrosomal complex and has been shown to be required for the anchoring and organization of the microtubule network to subcellular structures.
