Background: IgA is an immunoglobulin that is typically dimeric and held together by a J-chain protein. IgA is typically found near the mucous membranes of the body, including the gut, respiratory system, eyes, and colostrum. Also exists in a secretory form (in mucosal regions) vs. serum IgA, which is found in serum. IgA exists in two subclasses, IgA1 and IgA2, both of which are essential components of mucosal immunity. Although they share similar immune functions, they differ in structure, distribution, and vulnerability to proteolytic enzymes. IgA1 is the main form found in the bloodstream, while IgA2 is more commonly present in secretions such as saliva, tears, and breast milk.,The kappa light chain is a component of an Ig molecule that typically forms an Ig molecule linking to a heavy chain. The human body makes both kappa and lambda light chains, and elevated kappa levels may suggest disorders such as amyloidosis or multiple myeloma.
