Scientific Background: Galantamine hydrobromide is a long-acting, active acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (IC50 = 410 nM) and allosteric potentiator at neuronal nicotinic ACh receptors (1,2). It prevents β-amyloid-induced apoptosis in SH-SY5Y (3). Long-term administration in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease reduces amyloid precursor protein deposition and neurodegeneration in these mice (4,5).
