CloneID: Clone 29
Antigen Long Description: The original mouse antibody was generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with human GDF-15 / MIC-1 protein. The humanized version was generated by grafting the variable domain regions of the original mouse antibody onto human framework regions.
Buffer Composition: PBS only.
Uniprot Accession No.: Q99988
Specificity Statement: This antibody binds the human growth/differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) also known as macrophage inhibitory cytokine 1. GDF-15 is a divergent member of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily. While physiological expression is barely detectable in most somatic tissues in humans, GDF-15 is abundant in placenta. It regulates food intake, energy expenditure and body weight in response to metabolic and toxin-induced stresses. Highly elevated GDF-15 levels are mostly linked to pathological conditions including inflammation, myocardial ischemia, and notably cancer. GDF-15 is widely explored as a biomarker for disease prognosis.
Application Notes (Clone): This antibody can detect human GDF-15 protein in an ELISA and western blot. This antibody significantly reduces the neovascularization of endothelial cells produced by the GDF-15 protein. It also inhibits the growth of skin cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer or prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, inhibits angiogenesis inside/outside these tissues and inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells. The angiogenesis inhibitory activity was first confirmed in vitro through the tube formation assay and aortic ring branching assay. The inhibitory activity of this antibody was also tested in an in vivo angiogenesis assay using chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM). It was reported that this antibody can inhibit angiogenesis in vivo to an excellent degree. This antibody is recommended for diagnosis of disease where GDF-15 is overexpressed (WO2019004550).
