Uniprot Accession No.: P12476
Specificity Statement: This antibody binds the outer capsid glycoprotein VP7 of the Rotavirus A serotype 3. This antibody can bind rhesus and equine strains of Rotaviruses. Rotavirus is a genus of double-stranded RNA viruses in the family Reoviridae. A rotavirus infection is a contagious disease in which inflammation of the stomach and intestines occurs causing severe, watery diarrhea and vomiting in infants and young children. Nearly every child develops a rotavirus infection before the age of five.
Application Notes (Clone): This antibody neutralized serotype 3 rotaviruses RRV and simian rotavirus (SA11) in plaque reduction neutralization assay and protected suckling mice in vivo against serotype 3 (RRV and SA11) but not against OSU or UK virus challenge (Offit et al., 1986; PMID: 2422398). This antibody was used to detect rotaviruses from stools of infants with gastroenteritis using ELISA (Padilla-Noriega et al., 1990; PMID: 2166073). The crystal structure of the Fab fragment of the antibody in complex with rhesus rotavirus (RRV, serotype G3) VP7 trimer was determined. The Fab fragment showed a stronger neutralization activity against RRV than the original format (Aoki et al., 2009; PMID: 19520960).
