CloneID: OX-44
Antigen Long Description: This antibody was prepared by immunizing BALB/c mice with T lymphoblasts from an MLR between purified rat T helper cells and irradiated semiallogeneic rat spleen.
Buffer Composition: PBS only.
Chimeric Use Statement: This chimeric rabbit antibody was made using the variable domain sequences of the original Mouse IgG1 format, for improved compatibility with existing reagents, assays and techniques.
Uniprot Accession No.: P24485
Specificity Statement: This antibody recognises CD53, which is expressed on peripheral T-cells, single (CD4 or CD8) positive thymocytes, B-cells, monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells and microglial cells. This antibody recognises a conformational epitope that is dependent on disulphide bonding.
Application Notes (Clone): This antibody binds rat CD53, and consequently labels all myeloid cells and peripheral lymphoid cells, but only 12% of thymocytes (Paterson, 1987). Functional studies indicate that this subset of OX-44+ thymic cells includes all thymocytes that are on the pathway to immunocompetent T lymphocytes. By contrast, the OX-44- compartment represents cells that are negative for proliferation and thymopoiesic activity, and are fated to die in situ. In addition, this antibody has been used in conjunction with CD4 and CD8 antigens to define seven subsets of thymic cell. Most CD4-CD8- cells are OX-44+, whereas almost all CD4+ CD8+ cells were OX-44-
