Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

At the end of December 2019, a large number of lung infections with an unclear cause appeared in Wuhan, a metropolis in China. At the beginning of January 2020, Chinese authorities identified a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) as the cause of these diseases. The disease triggered by SARS-CoV-2 received the official name COVID-19 (“Corona Virus disease 2019”) and is transmissible from person to person.
