Notes: (+)-Fenfluramine is an agonist of the serotonin (5-HT) receptor subtypes 5-HT2B and 5-HT2C.{51800} It induces serotonin release from superfused midbrain synaptosome preparations isolated from wild-type mice, but not 5-HT2B-/- mice, when used at concentrations of 0.5 or 1 µM. (+)-Fenfluramine (3 or 10 mg/kg) reduces food intake in starved wild-type mice but not in starved 5-HT2B-/- mice. It reduces body weight gain in wild-type mice when infused at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg per day for 35 days. Formulations containing (+)-fenfluramine were previously used in the treatment of obesity.
